Temporary Building Policy
The following policy is written to address the placement of temporary buildings on the University of Florida campus. A temporary building shall be defined as one which is delivered in whole or in sections, is placed on minimal foundations, has self-contained heating and air conditioning, or does not meet BOR or university construction standards.
Temporary buildings will not be allowed in the core campus as defined by campus boundaries in Fig. 4-4-f of the Master Plan, with the exception of those temporary buildings needed during the duration of a construction project which house people displaced by such construction. Core campus includes all UF properties as defined by campus boundaries in Fig. 4-4-f of the Master Plan except the Surge area, Energy Park, 34th Street Animal Park, Physical Plant complex and IFAS agricultural areas.
Temporary buildings will be allowed in all other areas of campus as outlined above. Temporary buildings in these areas must be recommended for approval by the University Land Use and Facilities Planning Committee and approved by the Vice President for Business Affairs prior to placement and will be limited to a maximum of 5 years duration of use.
All temporary buildings, which presently exist within the core campus, must be removed as soon as permanent space is identified. Each activity currently in a temporary facility will report to the Vice President for Business Affairs their plan and timetable for moving into permanent facilities. These buildings will be granted a 5-year sunset and reviewed if still in existence at that time.
All temporary buildings, which presently exist outside the core area, shall be given a 5- year approval from the date on which this policy is approved. Each building shall be allowed an extension beyond this automatic approval if requested by the University Land Use and Facilities Planning Committee and approved by the Vice President for Business Affairs.
All users of present temporary buildings will be notified of this policy within 2 weeks of the above approval.
This temporary building policy will become part of the University of Florida Comprehensive Master Plan.
