Division 12 - Furnishings

Part 1 - Laboratory Casework

1.1

General Requirements.

  1. Specify only modular laboratory casework produced by nationally recognized laboratory casework manufacturers such as, Kewaunee Scientific Corporation or Fisher Hamilton Scientific, Inc.
  2. The use of particle board for plastic laminate finished counter tops or for the structural components of laboratory casework is prohibited.
  3. Plastic laminate counter tops and reagent shelves in laboratories utilizing chemicals shall be acid resistant.
  4. Epoxy resin counter tops and sinks, as well as the adhesives and insulation applied to it, shall be asbestos free.
  5. Where specified, metal drawer slides shall be PVC coated and shall carry a minimum 100 lb. load rating.
  6. The use of plastic drawer and cabinet pulls is prohibited.
  7. Specify, and verify in shop drawing review, that all utilities run inside of a laboratory casework system are accessible for repair, modification or replacement.
  8. When existing modular oak laboratory casework is to be refinished as part of a project or department request, refinishing shall only be done in a natural clear finish matching as close as possible the original finish.
  9. Refer to Section 11600 of the University of Florida Construction Standards for additional requirements.

1.2

Requirements by Building:

  1. Academic Research Building:
    1. All laboratory casework and accessories specified and/or to be installed in the Academic Research Building No. 201 shall match existing, which is a custom "C" frame installation.
  2. UF Brain Institute:
    1. All laboratory casework and accessories specified and/or to be installed in the UF Brain Institute, Building No. 201, shall match the existing produced by Fisher Hamilton Scientific, Inc.
  3. Medical Science Building:
    1. All laboratory casework and accessories specified and/or to be installed in the Medical Science Building No. 445 shall match the existing produced by Fisher Hamilton Scientific, Inc.
  4. Veterinary Medicine Academic Building:
    1. All laboratory casework and accessories specified and/or to be installed in the College of Veterinary Medicine Academic Building No. 1017 shall match the existing produced by Fisher Hamilton Scientific, Inc.

1.3

Products:

  1. When specifying window treatment as part of a project in the Medical Science Building and Pharmacy Wing (U.F. Building No. 445), specify only Graber Brighton "Silver Lining" #4260 Vertical Blinds. The intent is to maintain a uniform appearance as viewed from the exterior of the building.
